Biography
Born and raised in Rockville, Maryland, Julianne moved to Daytona Beach in 1973. In 1986 Julianne decided to exhibit her watercolors for the first time at a fine art festival in Port Orange, Florida. Winning second place in the "Reflections" art show spurred her on to pursue her goal of moving forward as an artist.
Achieving Signature Membership with the Florida Watercolor Society provided credence to Julianne's watercolor work. Julianne has provided various watercolor classes in Volusia County and volunteered with "Very Special Arts", a hands-on art festival for mentally and physically challenged students, at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach. She recently taught a class in acrylic painting at the Artists' Workshop in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
After many years of watercolor painting, Julianne changed to acrylics to explore the color, depth, and various applications of the medium. A new life of painting murals opened up and, for a few years, Julianne used her ability to paint large wall murals for both public corporations and private individuals.
Since 1988 Julianne has been painting and exhibiting in outdoor art festivals as well as museum shows. She has shown her work throughout Florida as well as exhibitions in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, California and Chicago. Currently she maintains a private studio in Port Orange, Florida, and continues to exhibit her work through various art venues.
"I paint because that is where my life and creative instincts led me. The pursuit of creating art, in one form or another, has been a natural desire since childhood. A passion and enthusiasm for making things, using my hands with any art materials available, has provided a fulfilling path."
"My current paintings reflect experimentation with color, form, light and texture. The paintings are made using layers of transparent, translucent, and opaque acrylic paints applied with various brushes and tools. Acrylic mediums mixed with color, applied in experimental, colorful, layers, lend to the illusion of color as atmosphere. My paintings come from a sence of place, a moment translated from inner expression.
"Painting from an intuitive and spiritual level, reliving in a sense, the feeling of those places I've seen, moments I've experienced, is something that I wish to keep with me—I draw on my natural emotional response to the living atmosphere of the earth."
